This month, we meet with Isael Mortin, a social media strategist.

1-Tell us About Yourself

My name is Isaël Morin. I live in Montreal and try to create a world where we all take our places a little more daily

For eight years, I have been helping entrepreneurs to take their places on social media, especially on LinkedIn, by creating original, engaging, and notable content.

2-Where Does Your Interest in Digital Marketing and LinkedIn Come From?

I do not believe that it is digital marketing as such that interests me the most. I would say that it is the action to create.

I always create stuff.

When I was 9, I created inventions in the garden shed.

When I was 15, I created ski video montages with my friends.

When I was 22, I created my first professional content on social media.

I was born to create.

Helping entrepreneurs to clarify their message, vision, and values, as well as teaching them how to create content to communicate, is more of a passion than a job for me.

3-How Did You Become Self-Employed?

I think it was unavoidable. I always have had this entrepreneurial spirit. I always wanted to create projects, organize events, and help people.

After I left my last job at Lex Start in 2021, I had two choices:

1- Find another stable job…

2- Or say F**k it !” and leap to become self-employed!

On January 1st, 2022, I chose the second option and ran to this new adventure!

4-What Is the Most Challenging Part of Self-Employment?

The loneliness.

Only a few people know the reality of being an entrepreneur. I have the chance to have a family, a girlfriend, and a bunch of friends who support me; I live a life that is very different from theirs.

For this reason, you need to surround yourself with other entrepreneurs with whom you can share your successes, stress, and fears. We automatically feel less alone when we see other people live the same reality.

5-Which Part of Being Self-Employed Do You Like the Most?

My professional life adapts to my personal life, not the other way around.

It is difficult for a medium or big business to adapt to the reality of every employee. Companies can compromise, but employees must also put some water in their wine.

In Quebec, the average seems to be to work 37 hours per week, get 2 or 3 vacation weeks per year, and have access to the same insurance.

I decided to create a business model for my clientele’s needs but mainly for my own!

I take breaks when I want, take some time off when it suits me, and have insurance that is adapted to my needs.

6-Tell Us About Your Work Routine.

I plan my strategies many months in advance.

I participate in networking activities as much as possible.

I meet all my prospects before deciding if I want to work with them.

I meet only one client per day to give them 100% of my energy.

I spend 50% of my work time on brand and content creation.

I manage nearly everything in my business.

And I drink a latte coffee with almond milk every morning.

7-What Are the Online Tools You Could Not Live Without?

- Google Drive

- Canva

- Adobe Premiere Pro

- Adobe Lightroom

- Momenteo

- L’application Notes

8-How Did You Learn About Momenteo, and How Long Have You Used It?

I searched invoicing software on Google. I decided to use Momenteo when I learned it was made in Quebec.

I have been using it for the last year!

9-What Makes Momenteo Different from Other Accounting Tools?

The quality of the design.

I attach great value to details. Whether it is content made for LinkedIn or an invoice, I find great importance to the visuals of all content I send.

Momenteo offers the opportunity to create minimalist invoices representing our visual brand.

10-How Did You Find Your First Customers?

It is them who found me first.

I started creating Facebook content in 2016 as part of my business web series, "C’est pas un show de cuisine.” By creating content on social media, I developed my visibility and notoriety!

After a few months, entrepreneurs asked me if I sell video production and content strategy services. I then started to assist my first customers whilst keeping a full-time job!

11-What Are Your Tips for Someone Who Would Like to Get Into Freelance?

Develop your notoriety by creating content on social media, especially on LinkedIn, if you are interested in B2B, as soon as possible. Too many entrepreneurs wait to be freelancers before starting to work on their brands.

Do not make this mistake.

Start making yourself known when you still have a job, even if you have nothing to sell. If you start now to develop your community, selling your first services will be easier when you leap and become a self-employed entrepreneur.

12-What Are Your Tips for Someone Who Would Like to Create Content for LinkedIn?

Do not only create content on your skills. Remember that we choose to work with you not only because of your skills, but because of the person you are too.

Being the best in your field does not worth it if no one likes to work with you.

Do not be afraid to show your personality and talk about your vision, beliefs, and personal story!

13-What Are Your Tips for Someone Who Would Like to Hire a Web Strategist?

Find someone who knows how to listen, not only give advice.

Try to do the basics yourself (for example, try to complete your LinkedIn profile yourself).

I encourage you to find a coach who shows you how to do it (increase your skills) and not do it 100% for you.

14-Why Are You Proud of Being a Freelancer?

Seeing my clients become more confident and take their place on LinkedIn and in their own life.

They are 100% my clients, and I am very proud of them.

15-Do You Have any Big Plans for 2023?

I would like to:

Continue to create original content to help and inspire my community!

Develop my visibility with traditional media!

Maybe go to France to meet French LinkedIn content creators!

16-How Can We Contact You?

You can schedule a free meeting here.

You can follow me on LinkedIn here:

And to access all my offers, click here!

PS: If you read this, I just want to take this opportunity to say that I believe in your potential.
