Having been self-employed since 2019, I help small businesses develop digital tools and strategies to stand out on the web and in real life. Through training, in collaboration with Quebec’s educational institutions, or through coaching, I am popularizing the strategies of large companies to simplify them and make them accessible to Quebec small businesses.

2-Where Does Your Interest in Digital Marketing Come From?

For as long as I can remember, I have always been fascinated in the advertising and packaging of products on the shelves. With an uncommon career path, studies in photography, research and development of new products and finally completing my digital marketing training at The Wharton School, I always had a marketing side that was in me.

3-How Did You Become Self-Employed?

I had the chance to work in agencies and companies for several years. However, over the years, I found that my place was not in this type of job. I felt like I was selling a product rather than really helping entrepreneurs and small businesses. So I decided to make the leap to better meet my values and bring something different to the market.

4-What Is the Most Challenging Part of Self-Employment?

Being an entrepreneur means wearing several hats for the needs of your business, sometimes several of these hats at the same time. FFrom an accountant hat to a strategist or a logistic coordinator, it can be challenging to ensure that you are mindful when making certain decisions or completing certain tasks.

5-Which Part of Being Self-Employed Do You Like the Most?

The possibility of saying no. Say no to projects that I don’t feel good about or in which I know I couldn’t get the commitment from the resources involved in the project.

6-Tell Us About Your Work Routine.

Although my office is at home, I strive to have a constant routine to ensure that I perform properly according to my current projects, but also to ensure that I have a work-life balance. I’m sitting in front of my computer from 8:00 in the morning. I begin by reading the emails I received in the evening or night and update my list of tasks according to the new requests. Usually, from 9am to 12pm, my time is devoted to training or meetings. The afternoon is dedicated to the production and recording of podcasts and media interviews. After a family supper, I return my emails and digital communications between 7pm and 9pm.

7-What Are the Online Tools You Could Not Live Without?

In the last year, Calendly has become a significant player in my online tools. As I have a wide variety of services available, Calendly makes time management and booking appointments easy for me and my client. No more email exchanges to find the perfect time for a meeting. ClickUp is now also an integral part of my daily management. Between task management and project management tool, ClickUp allows to make rigorous follow-ups and optimize my time spent on ongoing projects.

8-How Did You Learn About Momenteo, and How Long Have You Used It?

Momenteo was introduced to me by Michel Bouchard, a long-time colleague. I have been using the platform since 2020 for both my billing and for checking and archiving my expenses.

9-What Makes Momenteo Different from Other Accounting Tools?

The simplicity of use and the fact that Momenteo meets the needs of self-employed workers are elements that have made me lean towards this tool. Simple billing, the ability for my clients to pay online and time management on a project-by-project basis are important considerations when you are self-employed.

10-How Do You Find New Customers?

Even though I work in the digital world, word of mouth is still a vital part of marketing. Communication between satisfied customers to potential customers is essential. When the work is done well and the results are there, the word gets out quickly and we can quickly build a loyal customer base.

11-What Are Your Tips for Someone Who Would Like to Get Into Freelance?

Find what problem you can actually solve and use this aspect to provide peace of mind to the customers you are targeting. Small businesses are looking for simplicity. Offer them your services by simplifying a complex daily task.

12-What Are Your Tips for Someone Who Would Like to Hire a Web Strategist?

Marketing is not advertising. It goes far beyond just posting on social media. A web strategist can review the supply chain, the profitability of the products or services offered, do market research and find a way to present your company that will clearly indicate what you are doing, what you offer and what sets you apart. Much more than community management, it’s about creating a unique identity for your business. Every entrepreneur should contact a marketing strategist or web strategist to ensure that the actions taken in your marketing efforts are adequate and profitable.

13-Why Are You Proud of Being a Freelancer?

To feel that I am really helping entrepreneurs and small business’ decision-makers. To be able to see the results of my actions in their daily life or in the creation of a new product.

14-Do You Have any Big Plans for 2023?

In 2023, I plan to promote myself even more. Accustomed to being behind the scenes of various entrepreneurial successes in recent years, it is now time for me to take a little more space in the public sphere. I’m going to accentuate my presence by increasing the production of my podcast (GoGoulet La Balado) and I’m going to increase my visibility through more frequent conferences.

15-How Can We Contact You?

A simple Google search for GoGoulet will allow you to come across one of the platforms where I am active. You can easily reach me through my website, gogoulet.com. You can also listen to my podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcast, Google Podcast and Amazon Music via GoGoulet La Balado, a podcast that popularizes marketing, the web and new technologies.
