Today, we meet Marianne Leclerc-Dupont, who is a web developer, analyst, and photographer.

1-Tell us About Yourself

My name is Marianne, and I am a web developer, an analyst, and a photographer.

2-Where Does Your Interest in Your Work Come From?

When I was a teenager, I wanted to make movies. I then studied Arts, Letters, and Communication, specializing in cinema. I quickly realized that I liked the technical side of creating things. Ideas are good, but it is better to be able to make them. I then studied photography and then web development. It allowed me to learn to create a lot of things.

3-How Did You Become Self-Employed?

Out of necessity. I am now the mother of two young children, and I wanted to lighten our family schedule. When we work 37 or 40 hours a week, children spend a lot of time at the daycare from Monday to Friday. Being a self-employed worker allows me to have a real work-family balance.

4-What Is the Most Challenging Part of Self-Employment?

To work alone. I sometimes miss teamwork. Fortunately, I often work with collaborators. It allows me to share my thoughts on the work and have other points of view, which is difficult otherwise.

5-Which Part of Being Self-Employed Do You Like the Most?

The salary, the schedule, or the work: I am the one making decisions! I must say that I feel very fortunate when we take into consideration my experience and the nature of my work.

6-Tell Us About Your Work Routine.

It varies from day to day. I make lists, establish priorities, and tick the finished tasks progressively. No one is there to tell me what to do; therefore, it needs a lot of self-discipline.

7-What Are the Online Tools You Could Not Live Without?

Google Meet for my meetings with my clients. Momenteo for my estimates and invoices.

8-How Did You Learn About Momenteo, and How Long Have You Used It?

I learned about Momenteo by comparing the available tools online. I was familiar with some tools used in agencies like Pipedrive, Casserole Nova (which is a FileMaker product), and Quickbooks. I wished for something complete but more affordable. Momenteo is exactly what I was looking for.

9-What Makes Momenteo Different from Other Accounting Tools?

It is easy to use and intuitive, which is not insignificant for an accounting software. Everything is there: invoices, estimates, reports, taxes, expenses. Everything is also well sorted and organized.

10-How Do You Find New Customers?

Word-of-mouth. Family members, contacts, and friends are my best ambassadors.

11-What Are Your Tips for Someone Who Would Like to Get Into Freelance?

The first thing to do is to write down your goals, something that would look like a business plan. I would also suggest reading books on how to be a self-employed worker.

12-What Are Your Tips for Someone Who Would Like to Hire a Web Developer?

Ask questions, even if you know nothing about web development. Great communication with your supplier can make a huge difference. They must be able to popularize their work and allow you to understand the offered solutions so you can make the right decisions. It is not a good sign if you always have the impression that you do not have a choice.

13-Why are you proud of being a freelancer?

I do a lot of different things. It is very rewarding to build something from A to Z.

14-Do You Have any Big Plans for This Fall?

There are some little projects, nothing major at this moment. However, it should change quickly.

15-How Can We Contact You?

You can contact me by email at bonjour@petitemarianne.com.
